This class is recommended after you complete the Beginning Sewing Class Part 1 For Kids and Teens. Sewing students will continue to build on sewing skills. Students are welcome to use classroom machines or bring their own. The focus will be on reading beginning sewing patterns.

Projects/Materials/Supplies:

  • Pattern - Students are encourage to choose Level 1 Learn to Sew patterns from Simplicity or McCall, or choose an online pdf pattern. Contact Celia if you need help. Good options for the next step are shorts, skirts, or p.j. pants with an elastic waist band.

  • Fabric - Take your measurements and check the back of your pattern for yardage. Your pattern will also have a suggested list of appropriate fabrics to use for the pattern.

  • Additional notions - Notions are listed on the back of your pattern.

  • Thread to coordinate with your fabric.

Part of the sewing process is choosing your favorite color of fabric. Purchased patterns will have specific supplies listed. If you choose to make a t-shirt, please choose a medium weight knit with a 4 way stretch for your first project. Patterns made for knits will have a stretch test on the back of the pattern.

Please prewash and iron your fabric before class.

Every class student needs to bring:

  • Water bottle and healthy snack.

  • Closed-toe shoes.

*Class times were created with the idea that learning to sew should be enjoyable and not rushed. You might not finish your projects in the allotted time. If you don’t finish you can come back at no additional charge.
