Frequently Asked Questions

What age are your students?
My sewing classes and camps are designed for kids ages 8 – 17, however, I have successfully taught students as young as five. How to Know if Your Child is Ready to Sew is a great article on determining if your student is ready for sewing lessons. I agree with the article that coordination, reading, ability to follow directions, and curiosity are much more important than age.  I offer a free 30-minute session for kids to a test drive on the sewing machine to help parents decide if their child is ready to sew.

How many students are enrolled in each class?
Depending on the class and skill level, most classes are limited to four students. Private and semi-private (two students) lessons are available.

Does my student really need the prerequisite class?
Yes. While most sewing classes begin with projects, I believe inspiring confidence and creativity begins with the basics. However, I understand some students may already have skills adequate to participate in classes and camps. (see Are You Ready: a list of basic skills covered in the prerequisite class). I highly recommend the Sewing Machine Fun – Starting Out class for all students. Not only do I teach sewing fundamentals, but by the end of the class, students will be able to perform basic care and maintenance for the sewing machine.

What happens if the kids don’t finish their projects by the end of class?
I created class times with the idea that learning to sew should be enjoyable and not rushed. I know young sewists may not finish their project in the allotted time and that’s ok! My goal is for them to have fun, and get as far as they can with the project while in class. If they don’t finish, students can come back anytime during open sewing times to finish at no additional charge.

Do I need to purchase additional supplies to bring to class?
It depends. I believe kids should have fun sewing, and part of the sewing experience is picking out fabric in colors that motivate them to complete a project. Please read the class information carefully. If additional supplies are required, I will send you a list of what your student will need to bring.

How do I sign my kid up?
Classes and details for registration are listed here. Sewing classes range in skill levels and interest. Maybe you just want a fun sewing or crafting party with friends? Together we can help you make it happen! During school breaks, I try to plan special fun sewing projects so be sure to check the calendar.

Please read through our Registration and Liability Release form. The forms must be filled out before students begin class. I take safety seriously, so please read the forms to your child so they understand my classroom rules before they take classes. My small class size means classes fill quickly. Don’t delay signing up.

Where are you located?
My sewing classroom is located in my home studio. I’m located on the corner of Cloverdale and Lake Hazel Road.

What is your cancellation/reschedule policy?
Your spot is reserved for the class you select upon payment. There are no refunds for missed classes or camps. If you cancel two weeks before class begins, I will transfer the fees to a future camp or class. If you cancel less than two weeks before class starts or fail to show up for class, you will forfeit the entire fee. If you miss a class, you may be able to make it up in a future session or attend an open sew day if you I have space available. If I cancel a class, I will issue a refund in the manner in which you paid or you can transfer your payment to a future session of your choice. Classes may be rescheduled or cancelled if not fully enrolled.
